UPDATE: 19 April 2024 – 10:50
I have spoken to senior management at the municipality.
Residents will know one pump was ordinarily used when levels were low.
Now, because the tower is full, one pump is sufficient to supply water to all residents on the reservoir.
The problem with supply to some areas must then be elsewhere and the municipality is investigating.
If you are still experiencing water issues, please report it to 053 830 6911 or 080 122 9010.

UPDATE: 19 April 2024 – 08:00
Good morning, residents
According to the municipality, Newton is currently using one pump.
This will cause little to no water pressure in some areas.

IMPLEMENTATION OF MEASURES TO ALLOW FOR NEWTON RESERVOIRS RECOVERY
Residents of Galeshewe, Roodepan and Platfontein are hereby informed that the off-takes supplying water are to be closed today at 12h00 to 18h00 in an effort to enhance storage capacity at the Newton Reservoirs. The impact will not be immediate as it takes two-three hours for for the network to run empty. Resident are urged to store water for critical four-hour use.
Further measures aimed at enhancing the reservoirs storage capacity and in upholding stable supply, will be communicated during the course of the day.
Following the restoration of supply, the distribution network took strain from demand exacerbated by household JoJo consumption.
EMERGENCY WATER SUPPLY REMAINS IN FORCE
Amid water supply having been restored in a large number of residential areas, we are aware of some still affected by outages.
Sol Plaatje Municipality’s Waterworks teams are being dispatched to make an assessment in areas that are expected to receive water supply at this stage.
We wish to assure affected residents that water tankering will remain in force and affected residents are urged to call our Call Center at Toll-Free 0801 229 010 or 053 832 4211 for dispatching of roving tankers.
We thank our residents for their patience and we regret the inconvenience caused by the delays experienced in the repair works between last Friday and yesterday.
We will soon be able to specify the gains made from the Planned Water Supply Interruption once stability of supply has been achieved.

UPDATE: OFF-TAKES ARE BEING CLOSED FOR REPLENISHING OF THE NEWTON RESERVOIRS
Three (3) pumps have been put into operation at Riverton Water Treatment Works
The off-takes are being closed – on both pipelines 600tmm and 965mm diameter – to boost supply to the Newton Reservoirs.
A decision has been taken to start filling the 23 megaliters, followed by 45ml and 102 ml reservoirs.
SUPPLY TO BE RESTORED MONDAY 15 APRIL 2024 IN THE MORNING AT 05H00
Heavy rains and inclement weather frustrated the timely welding work at Gogga, resulting in the delay in restoration as we were targeting today’s evening.
Other setbacks; we discovered during this morning’s assessment that a stainless steel barrel was stolen from an air valve chamber at Soul City in Galeshewe. The air valve barrel was replaced. A leak on a flange adaptor on the 965mm diameter by-pass at Midstation near Roodepan was also discovered during the pre-pumping inspection. This was attended to by installing a replacement valve.
We thank our residents for their patience and we regret the inconvenience caused by the unforeseen delays experienced in the repair works.

UPDATE ON WATER SUPPLY
Riverton Water Treatment Plant
We are still pumping with three pumps from the Riverton Treatment Plant at full capacity.
Matters Concerning The Bulk Water Supply Network
Our efforts to eliminate bottlencks are well underway. At 20h00, we closed all the take-offs to the low-lying areas feeding directly off the main supply line. This in an effort to once again ramp up supply to the Newton Reservoirs.
Restoration of supply To Low-Lying Areas
Supply to Galeshewe, Roodepan and Platfontein will be reinstated at 04h00 tomorrow morning.
High-Lying Areas Supply From Newton Reservoirs
Water supply to Kimberley CBD and neighbouring high-lying areas will also commence tomorrow morning at 04h00.
Improvement
Amid all the repair and refurbishment work undertaken during the Planned Water Supply Interruption, we are pleased tio inform the public that water pressure in the supply line has significantly improved as evidenced in the video supporting this communique
In The Video: Scour valve on 600mm diameter pipe opened in vicinity of Homevale at 16h00 this afternoon, serves to confirm that pressure is building up towards the Newton Reservoirs
We will continue to gradually replenish the network and interrupt supply after the short reprieve. Our efforts are aimed at ensuring the reservoirs are replenished to meet the supply demand.
Emergency Water Supply
We have recalled our internal flatbed trucks to supply the water starved high lying areas in town and encourage residents to be on the look out for these.
We are thankful for the patience so far and appeal that our residents bear with us whilst we are restoring full uninterrupted supply.

UPDATE: 10 April 2024 – 19:00
UPDATE ON WATER SUPPLY
Riverton Water Treatment Plant
We have put three pumps into operation and we are now producing and pumping at full capacity.
Matters Concerning The Bulk Water Supply Network
In our efforts of embarking on a final assessment of the system and eliminating bottlenecks, we have had to implement supply interruptions. These include the measures hereunder for the evening into the morning.
Supply To Low-Lying Areas
Supply to Galeshewe, Roodepan and Platfontein re-commenced at 18h00 when the off-takes were opened. Supply will be interrupted at 20h00 so pumping to the Newton Reservoirs can be ramped up.
High-Lying Areas Supply From Newton Reservoirs
Water supply to Kimberley CBD and neighbouring high-lying areas will commence tommorow morning at 04h00.
Current Challenge At Hand
Amid all the repair and refurbishment work undertaken during the Planned Water Supply Interruption, we would like to point out the following:
1. The water distribution network had been completely depleted and we now have to gradually replenish the network and ensuring line filling is properly done;
2. Filling of the reservoirs to meet supply demand is critical and therefore throttling of supply is of importance; and
3. Attaining enough pressure to boost flow from the taps is also of priority.
We appeal for patience whilst we are performing this key balancing act and trust that our efforts in achieving uninterrupted water supply shall meet endorsement.

UPDATE: 10 April 2024 – 09:00
UPDATE ON WATER SUPPLY – EFFECTING DAYTIME WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION TO ENHANCE STORAGE CAPACITY AT RESERVOIRS
The Riverton Water Treatment Plant has started to operate at full capacity this morning at 02h00 amid repair and refurbishment work done on the clarifiers at Treatment Plant 2.
We are now in a position to pump with at least two pumps at Riverton Plant to replenish the Newton Reservoirs in an effort to enhance our storage capacity and build sufficient pressure to pump with ease into the distribution network.
In an effort to achieve normal supply, a balancing act is required which will entail the effecting of an immediate Daytime Water Supply Interruption. This will be implemented today from 10h00 to 16h00.
Our Newton Reservoir levels are:
23 Mℓ Reservoir: 65% (11.07 ft)
45 Mℓ Reservoir: 10% (3 ft)
91 Mℓ Reservoir: 24% (4.11 ft)
102 Mℓ Reservoir: 66% (11.24 ft)
The above levels are not sufficient for supply and only permit for emergency supply.
We appeal for patience and trust that our efforts in achieving uninterrupted water supply shall meet endorsement.

UPDATE: 10 April 2024 – 08:00
Many areas in Kimberley are currently experiencing little to no water pressure since Tuesday evening. Initially it was mentioned that apparently the water levels at Newton Reservoir were low and Newton was switched off. This morning the issue has worsened and according to Sol Plaatje call centre, waterworks are struggling to get the pumps started to pump the water. We are currently still waiting on an official notice from Sol Plaatje and as soon as, or if they send one, we will update all.
