Kimberley “an expensive town to live in”
In today’s DFA – THE NATIONAL Treasury has warned the Sol Plaatje Municipality (SPM) that the city’s tariffs are higher than those of other comparable municipalities, making Kimberley “an expensive town to live in”.
The local government was also rapped over the knuckles by National Treasury for its electricity distribution losses, which are at 15.5 percent, against a norm of between seven and 10 percent.
The water losses, standing at 37 percent, also raised warning bells.
“This led to unnecessary huge increases in tariffs and the wastage of scarce resources. The municipality should focus on addressing water losses rather than covering water losses by increasing tariffs,” the assessment stated.
