Thursday, 09 July 2020: While Eskom is working hard to return generating units to service, the possibility of loadshedding during the peak demand hours is high. We request the public to reduce electricity usage as the power generation system is severely constrained.

One generation unit at the Tutuka power station tripped, while another one was taken off the grid, as well as a unit at Lethabo. The return to service of a generation unit each at Duvha and Kendal power stations have been delayed. All of these have added significant pressure to the generation system.

Any additional breakdowns will compromise Eskom’s ability to supply the country through the peak demand period of 17:00 – 21:00. This constrained supply situation may persist through the weekend.

We urge the public’s co-operation in managing demand in order to help us avoid loadshedding and supply the country’s demand through the peak periods.

💥LOADSHEDDING UPDATE SUN 23 FEB 2020 – 08:00am 💥
https://www.kimberley.org.za/?p=2615

UPDATE: No loadshedding is expected today.

ESKOM POWER ALERT 1 Date: 23 February 2020 – No rotational loadshedding expected today, but the possibility remains if there are any shifts in the system
Sunday, 23 February 2020: As the generation system has sufficiently improved with the successful return of a unit and adequate emergency reserves, Eskom does not expect to implement rotational loadshedding today. However, the generation plant remains unreliable and unpredictable and, the possibility remains that loadshedding may be implemented at short notice, should there be major changes in the generation system performance during the course of the day.
The pumped-storage schemes have recovered adequately, while an additional generation unit has successfully returned to service earlier this morning. Two more units are expected to return later in the day.
Unplanned outages or breakdowns, at 10 962MW as at 04:40 this morning, have stabilised, giving us some reprieve from loadshedding today. Planned maintenance is 5 937MW.

UPDATE: Stage 2 Loadshedding will stop at 17:00 today Saturday, 22 Feb 2020, and will resume on Sunday at 08:00

ESKOM POWER ALERT 1 Date: 22 February 2020 Rotational loadshedding will stop at 17:00 today, and will resume again on Sunday at 08:00 Saturday, 22 February 2020: Eskom will stop rotational loadshedding at 17:00 today, owing to an improved generation system performance, which has given us room to provide some relief to customers during the night. We will resume implementing rotational loadshedding on Sunday at 08:00. Two generation units have successfully returned to service earlier than expected this morning and the pumped-storage schemes have recovered adequately, setting us on a good course to full recovery by Monday morning.

Load shedding stage 3 from 09h00 15/02/2020 to 05h00 17/02/2020 and Load curtailment stage 3 from 09h30 15/05/2020 to 05h00 17/02/2020 will be implemented to stabilize the system. Stage 3 is actually stage 2 plus geysers. Your Eskom Customer Executive or Regional control center will contact you for further action. We regret the inconvenience”

However, feedback from the public indicated that the unconfirmed “New” Stage 3 Schedule was being used. For example at 20:00 last night Carters Glen went off according to the time slot indicated on the “New” Stage 3 Schedule.

At this time there is no confirmation whether the Stage 2 Schedule + Geysers or the unconfirmed “New” Stage 3 Schedule will be used today.

Stage 2 rotational loadshedding will continue from 09:00 tomorrow on Monday until Thursday at 06:00, with respite between 06:00 to 09:00 each day, when possible

Sunday, 2 February 2020: Eskom is currently implementing Stage 2 rotational loadshedding until 06:00 tomorrow. Stage 2 loadshedding will resume from 09:00 until 06:00 on Tuesday and will continue until Thursday at 06:00. While rotational loadshedding is unavoidable, in an effort to minimise the impact on traffic, we will endeavor to provide a break in loadshedding from 06:00 to 09:00 each day in the week, when possible.
Unplanned outages or breakdowns were at 11 831MW as at 17:00 this afternoon. While good progress has been made in replenishing water for our pumped storage schemes, we have not fully replenished diesel for our open cycle gas turbines, necessitating that Stage 2 loadshedding be implemented during the week until Thursday. We will continue to monitor the system closely and will give periodic updates on the status of the power system as things may change at short notice.

ESKOM Stage 2 loadshedding will continue from 09:00 on FRI, 31 JAN 2020 to 06:00 on MON, 3 FEB 2020

ESKOM POWER ALERT 1 Date: 31 January 2020
Stage 2 loadshedding continues from 9:00 this morning
Friday, 31 January 2020: Eskom stopped stage 2 loadshedding at 6:00 this morning and will continue with stage 2 from 9:00 today (Friday) until 6:00 on Monday. This is due to a shortage of generation capacity and depleted emergency resources, which were used extensively to supplement capacity over the past few days. In addition, we are taking out three big units for planned maintenance today.
Unplanned outages were at 12 722 MW as at 05:30 this morning. We are monitoring the system closely and we will continue to give periodic updates on the status of the power system as things may change at short notice.
We apologise to South Africans for the negative impact this may have on them. We want to assure the nation that critical maintenance is being done to units on planned outages as well as some of those on unplanned outages to ensure their timeous return to service. We will use the weekend to replenish dam levels for pumped storage schemes and diesel for open cycle gas turbines.

https://www.kimberley.org.za/?p=2615

ESKOM: Stage 2 loadshedding to continue until 06:00 on Friday, 10 JAN 2020

POWER ALERT 1 Date: 09 January 2020
Stage 2 loadshedding to continue until 06:00 on Friday
Thursday, 09 January 2020: The system remains severely constrained and unpredictable, and as such loadshedding stage 2 will unfortunately have to continue from 08:00 this morning until 06:00 tomorrow morning (Friday).
We have lost additional generation capacity overnight with breakdowns of over 14000MW. Our emergency reserves are also insufficient to meet the demand for electricity during the day. As a result we have to loadshed throughout the day until tomorrow.
Our teams continue to work tirelessly to return units from planned and unplanned outages. Owing to inadequate maintenance over a number of years, the system remains vulnerable to unplanned outages. We remind customers that loadshedding is an essential and controlled measure to ensure that the integrity of the grid is not compromised.

We will give South Africans regular updates about our prognosis for tomorrow and our recovery efforts for the rest of the week leading into the weekend.
We continue to ask customers to reduce demand as a concerted collective effort can help to avoid or reduce the level of loadshedding.

STAGE 2 #LOADSHEDDING Declared from 01:00 on WED, 08/01/2020 to 06:00 on WED 08/01/2020

2️⃣ On Stage 2 loadshedding two hour long rolling blackouts are introduced
according to the Stage 2 Schedule.

POWER ALERT 2 Date: 07 January 2020
Eskom to implement Stage 2 loadshedding from 01:00 until 06:00 tomorrow morning in order to accommodate the release of matric results
Tuesday, 07 January: Eskom announced that it will implement stage 2 loadshedding from 01:00 until 06:00 tomorrow morning, Wednesday. In order to minimise the impact of the loadshedding on South Africans, loadshedding is scheduled at night to maximise electricity availability during the working day. Owing to a loss of additional generation capacity, emergency reserves had to be extensively utilised to supplement capacity during the day. These now need to be replenished to meet tomorrow’s electricity demand. The system remains constrained and unpredictable with breakdowns (UCLF) sitting at 13 600MW.
In order to give matriculants an opportunity to receive their matric results, the implementation of stage 2 loadshedding has been delayed to 01:00 on Wednesday morning. This decision will also allow the matriculants enough time to make their way home safely.

Our teams continue to work tirelessly to return units back from planned and unplanned outages. Owing to inadequate maintenance over a number of years, the system remains vulnerable to unplanned outages. We, however, remind customers that loadshedding is an essential and controlled measure to protect the power system from a total collapse or blackout.
We continue to ask customers to reduce demand as a concerted collective effort can help to avoid or reduce lessen the level of loadshedding.
We will keep South Africans informed about the status of the electricity system and our recovery effort.

ESKOM: #Loadshedding will be terminated at 23:00 on Sunday 05/01/2020.

POWER ALERT 2 Date: 05 January 2020
Eskom stops loadshedding earlier than planned with no loadshedding expected tomorrow
Sunday, 05 January 2020: Loadshedding will be terminated at 23:00 this evening, earlier than anticipated as our water levels at pumped storage schemes have been adequately replenished. We have managed to conserve diesel at our open cycle gas turbine generators, and continue to work to replenish the diesel levels.
The system remains constrained and vulnerable, with unplanned breakdowns at 13 041 MW as at 21:00 on Sunday 5 January 2020. No loadshedding is expected tomorrow, Monday 06 January 2020. However, should there be a significant shift in plant performance and an increase in unplanned breakdowns, loadshedding could be implemented at short notice.
We continue to ask customers to reduce demand by using electricity sparingly as a concerted collective effort can help to avoid or reduce the level of loadshedding.
Customers should note that some areas may take longer to be restored. If customers experience outages for longer periods than announced, please contact your supplier (Eskom or the Municipality) as this may be a localised power outage.

💥LOADSHEDDING UPDATE SUN 05 JAN 2020 – 07:00 💥

POWER ALERT 1 Date: 05 January 2020
Stage 2 loadshedding will continue until 05:00 on Monday
Sunday, 05 January 2020: The system remains constrained and vulnerable, and as such loadshedding stage 2 will unfortunately have to continue from 08:00 this morning until 05:00 tomorrow morning (Monday).
The conveyor belt failure at Medupi power station has since been repaired and the plant is feeding power into the grid. This incident, however, as well as a loss of additional generation units caused us to have to deplete our diesel and pump storage levels, which we need to restore as we head into the working week on Monday.
Our teams continue to work tirelessly to return units back from planned and unplanned outages. Owing to inadequate maintenance over a number of years, the system remains vulnerable to unplanned outages. We remind customers that loadshedding is an essential and controlled measure to ensure that the integrity of the grid is not compromised.
We will give South Africans regular updates about our prognosis for tomorrow and our recovery efforts for the week ahead.
We continue to ask customers to reduce demand as a concerted collective effort can help to avoid or reduce the level of loadshedding.

UPDATE THU, 28 FEBRUARY 2019 14:50

According to Eskom, there is an increased risk of Stage 1 rotational loadshedding from 2pm until 10pm today as a result of a shortage of generating capacity. The loadshedding risk remains high for today and tomorrow, and will continue over the weekend.

UPDATE FRI, 15 FEBRUARY 2019 20:00

The probability of loadshedding is low for the next few days. The power system however remains tight and vulnerable and while Eskom is making every effort to limit loadshedding, it could be implemented at short notice should there be a significant shift in plant performance. This could include a significant loss in generating plant due to unplanned technical breakdowns.

BACKGROUND

Since this morning we have unexpectedly lost six additional generating units which have put additional strain on the system.

Stage 1 requires 1000MW, Stage 2 requires 2000MW, Stage 3 requires 3000MW and Stage 4 calls for 4000MW to be rotationally loadshed nationally at a given period. Loadshedding is conducted rotationally as a measure of last resort to protect the power system.

MESSAGE FROM ESKOM:

ESKOM POWERALERT 1

Eskom implements Stage 2 rotational loadshedding

Eskom regrets informing South Africans and all its customers that after having not implemented loadshedding from 09 December 2018, Eskom will implement Stage 2 rotational loadshedding from 13:00 and is likely to continue until 22:00. This is as a result of a shortage of capacity. There is also a need to replenish and preserve emergency water and diesel resources to limit loadshedding possibility or magnitude thereof in the following week.

Customers are reminded to treat all electrical points as live during loadshedding.

Stage 2 calls for 2000MW to be rotationally loadshed nationally at a given period. Loadshedding is conducted rotationally as a measure of last resort to protect the power system from a total collapse or blackout.

We continue to appeal to residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly during this period. Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand.

When Eskom experiences a generation capacity shortfall on the National  Power grid, Load Shedding is immediately required in order to maintain national Network stability. During such an event, all Power Utilities are required to contribute to the national shortfall by reducing load in accordance the National Load Shedding Plan.
In other words: Load-shedding and rolling blackouts can be introduces at any time with little or no notice.

Kimberley Load Shedding Status • MON 10/12/2018 08:30

NO CURRENT LOADSHEDDING. However the system remains tight & the risk of loadshedding remains high should power station units fail to return to service as planned.

Kimberley Load Shedding Status • MON 10/12/2018 00:00

Kimberley Load Shedding Status • SUN 09/12/2018 08:40
NO #loadshedding is expected to be implemented today as sufficient pumped storage levels have been recovered and some generating units have returned to service.

Kimberley Load Shedding Status • SUN 09/12/2018 06:00

An increase in breakdowns at our power stations today has further
impacted the availability of sufficient generation capacity. As a result, we
have been unable to build up the necessary reserves for the week ahead.
We therefore regret to announce that up to Stage 2 loadshedding is a
high probability for tomorrow (Sunday, 09 December).
As previously
announced, there also remains a high probability of Stage 2 loadshedding for
Monday, 10 December.
We apologise for the late notification and the
inconvenience this may cause”  Eskom

load shedding to take place sometime this week.

This after the power utility earlier warned of a constrained national power
supply – which it said was caused by protests and intimidation – for the first
time since late June. Eskom put out similar warnings ahead of rotational load
shedding in the past.

On Monday afternoon at 16:00 Eskom said in an update that customers “are
advised to plan on the assumption that load shedding will take place”.

Customers are encouraged to check their load shedding schedules on the Eskom
