TEMPORARY WATER INTERRUPTION 15/08/2025 – Newton Reservoir & Riverton Plant
UPDATE: 17 August 2025 – 15:00
DAY-3: RESTORATION OF WATER SUPPLY TO LARGE PARTS OF KIMBERLEY
Newton Reservoirs Levels: The levels recorded at 14:00 today are;
– Reservoir 102 megalitres: 10.8 feet (67.5%)
– Reservoir 98 megalitres: 9.11 feet (56.9 %)
– Reservoir 45 megalitres: 11.2 feet (70%)
– Target: The target is to attain 16 feet or the highest carrying capacity levels achieved since the five-day Planned Water Supply Interruption from May 28 to June 3, 2025.
– Progress: The reservoirs are currently supplying water to residents while achieving these levels and the second pump was put into operation at 14:45
– Permanent Solution: A new pipeline installation is planned as a permanent solution, funded by the Budget Facility for Infrastructure (BFI), a seven-year grant worth R2.5 billion, aimed at refurbishing the municipality’s infrastructure.
The municipality lost large volumes of water due to a massive burst on the 900mm diameter pipeline near Roodepan’s Sunset Manor, which required the repairing of an old patch on the pipeline. The new pipeline installation will provide a more sustainable solution.
We thank residents for their support, patience and understanding.
Equally for the only internal staff repair effort; we applaud our colleagues at Waterworks and Mechanical Engineering for having carried out the two-day repair operation with aplomb, meeting deadlines and working around the clock.
Kind regards,
Thabo Mothibi

TEMPORARY WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION – LARGE PARTS OF KIMBERLEY
ACTION:
Our team of boilermakers are currently cutting pipes and preparing plates to the required measurements for fitting on the patch.
Although the line is still under pressure, we’re utilizing two 6-inch pumps to drain the line. The 600mm pipeline is operational, ensuring that other parts of the city receive water with minimal pressure.
Arrangements have been made to provide water for funerals. Requests can be forwarded to Mr. Saul Maseng at 073 381 5218.
