TEMPORARY WATER INTERRUPTION 27/05/2026 – Newton Reservoir & Riverton Plant

⚠️ ALERT: WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION IN HIGH-LYING AREAS

The municipality is experiencing water production challenges at Riverton Water Treatment Plant following the replacement of a heavily leaking asbestos pipe drawing raw water from abstraction pumps to the purification plants.

Current status:
– Only one pump at Newton Reservoirs is operational, resulting in low water pressure in many high-lying areas this morning.
– Newton Reservoirs are still recovering after a leak on the bulk pipeline near Soul City along the R31 route. Repair work was completed in the early hours of Saturday, 23 May 2026.

📍Important Information: Riverton is now functioning optimally, and production is set to improve. Newton Reservoirs is expected to pump at full capacity around midday.
