TEMPORARY WATER INTERRUPTION 09/02/2026 – Newton Reservoir
UPDATE: 9 February 2026 – 11:30
ALERT: NIGHTLY WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION IS LIFTED
The municipality hereby announces the lifting of the Nightly Water Supply Interruption, which came into effect over two weeks ago on Tuesday, 27 January 2026.
The interruption resulted from the breakdown in power supply to the Riverton Water Treatment Plants (old and new). Reservoirs levels at Newton Reservoirs had to be managed to avoid depleting them and enforcing the nightly restriction as a recovery measure.
Newton Reservoirs Levels: Our reservoirs are above 90% full, a carrying capacity for 24-hour uninterrupted water supply.
Equally, the lifting mirrors an improvement in production at Riverton Water Treatment Plants.
UPDATE: REPAIR WORK PROGRESS – BEACONSFIELD BURST PIPE
All other preparatory work has been done. The necessary fittings have been secured. The pumps are to be switched back on at Newton Reservoirs within three hours.
Repair work is on a burst 400mm diameter asbestos pipe located in Cape Town Road.

UPDATE: 9 February 2026 – 08:00
Based on information received from social media there appears to be a burst pipe at Newton Reservoir. This unfortunately necessitated the need to switch the reservoir off for repairs.
All areas serviced by Newton Reservoir will have little to no water pressure. No time frame was given as to when water will be restored.
