WATER SUPPLY RESTORATION
Action: Due to the low levels at the Newton Reservoirs, we have resolved to restore supply at 04:00 tomorrow morning (Fri, 29 Nov 2024) for all residents.
Basis For The Supply Interruption.
The setback encountered emanates from two major leaks on the 900mm diameter pipe located on Droogfontein CPA land and at the old Riverton Water Treatment Works past Tuesday
The situation was exacerbated by the tripping of pumps at Riverton, further throttling supply to the reservoirs.
We once more extend our unending apologies for the hardships endured.

WATER SUPPLY RESTORATION
Use Of One Pump For Line Filling: Line filling is once again in progress amid the tripping of pumps at Riverton Water Treatment Works supplying Newton Reservoirs.
More pumps are to be engaged once maximum pressure has been attained.

Water will reach the Newton Reservoirs between 17:00 to 18:00. Once the levels have improved, the offtakes will be opened, and full supply to our communities will be restored.

WATER SUPPLY RESTORATION
Repair work: The leak at the railway line was successfully fixed in the early hours of this morning.
Water supply restoration commenced at 06:00 with line filling. Once the line is full and water has reached the Newton Reservoirs and the levels improved, offtakes will be opened, and full supply to our communities will be restored.
Line filling is expected to take six hours with the Newton Reservoirs levels expected to improve by 16:00 to enable full supply restoration by 18:00pm.
We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by this unfortunate and unplanned water supply interruption.

UPDATE: 27 November 2024 – 19:30
PUMPS AT NEWTON RESERVOIRS AND AT RIVERTON WATER TREATMENT WORKS SWITCHED OFF
Reason: The leak at the railway line – on 900mm diameter pipe at Droogfontein- has to be assessed, and requires low pipeline pressure
Both Riverton and Newton will be switched off for this section of pipe to be isolated at Midstation and to be drained. Once isolated, the cross connection valve at Midstation will be opened, and one pump at Riverton will be switched back on for water to be pumped to the Newton Reservoirs to improve the levels.
All offtakes will be closed during this time. Repairs will continue throughout the night.

UPDATE: 25 November 2024 – 14:20
ALERT: WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION – WEST END
• Cause: Burst 450mm diameter steel pipe, located at corner Green Street and Waterloo Street, West End.
• Action: Valves closed, draining to start, and followed by inspection and actual repair work.
ROAD CLOSURE
Motorists and other road users are implored to avoid using Green Street from this afternoon into the early evening at 19:00.
Traffic officers will be assisting with traffic control.
The inconvenience is regretted.

WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTIONS – BELGRAVIA, BEACONSFIELD, KLISSERVILLE AND HERLEAR
* Repair work is in progress at burst pipe, 250mm, located in Du Toitspan Road, across St Teresa’s Hospice.
• Estimated restoration of supply; 16:30
* Repair work also completed at Loch Street, Belgravia. Supply will also be restored at 16:30.

ALERT: WATER SUPPLY CONSTRAINTS AT RIVERTON PURIFICATION PLANTS DUE TO ESKOM POWER SUPPLY CHALLENGES
Reason: Eskom electricity supply disruptions; Ganspan Substation cable theft and low voltage from Kimberley Distribution Centre.
Impact: Reduced water production and supply to the Newton Reservoirs; two pumps in operation.
