Kimberley water reserves dropping 9/1/2015
Due to the weeks heatwave in Kimberley the level of Kimberley’s water reserves has been dropping steadily.
Today Sol Plaatje Municipality made an urgent plea to Kimberley’s residents and the business community to use water sparingly. Although the current water level of 11 ft is still satisfactory, continued consumption at the current rates cannot be sustained.
The municipality also warned that if water usage does not drop and levels continues to decline they will have no choice but to shut down Kimberley’s water for a few hours daily.
Full unedited statement from Sol Plaatje Municipality obtained via NOCCI below
“Our water levels in Riverton are currently standing at 11ft (no need to panic yet)which means the levels are dropping slowly due to the high usage of water by households. With the current high temperatures it will be difficult, but We urge all residents, households and the business community to please use water sparingly, gardens can be watered but please not for more than an hour, the demand is too high to carry, and with the current state of high usage of water, it has a huge impact on the supply of water, and if this continues the Municipality will have no choice but to have shut water down for a few hours in a day.”
