THE NORTHERN CAPE MEC FOR HEALTH IS SET TO ANNOUNCE THE INTERVENTION PLAN FOR ROBERT MANGALISO SOBUKWE HOSPITAL AND NEW FACILITIES.
The Northern Cape MEC for Health, Ms Fufe Makatong wishes to express a heartfelt apology to the Northern Cape communities and health stakeholders across the province particularly, the patients depicted on social media and DFA article of Friday’s the 25 January 2019. This expose came exactly 25 days after MEC visited Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe hospital, where she engaged with patients and management on measures to decongest the casualty and reduce long waiting times.
This unfortunate situation where patient’s constitutional rights were violated left MEC Makatong speechless as a consequence she distances herself to any attempts to justify such gruesome act under her stewardship. MEC Makatong have since engaged the head of the administration in expressing her disappointment and disbelieve on the role of management in this incident.
Both MEC and HoD agreed on a rescue plan to overhaul Robert Management Sobukwe Hospital management to be discussed with the Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital board on Tuesday, 29 January 2019. MEC Makatong committed to further engage the RMSH board and management on the following areas: –
– The appointment of an interim CEO while awaiting the finalisation of the recruitment process that ensued towards a permanent CEO for RMSH, and
– The placement of roving ambulance and patient transporter for transference of none emergency patients to Galeshewe Day Hospital so that RMSH focus on emergency cases.
In addition, MEC Makatong will be convening an extra ordinary management meeting towards the development of a comprehensive District Health Services Plan solely intended to explore mechanisms for treatment of stable patients in the district hospitals across the province through specialist clinics.
Lastly, MEC Makatong agreed with HoD that the allocated funding by Provincial Treasury towards operationalisation of the New Mental facility and other five new facilities identified to be finalised before end of February 2019.
