Shortly after a weekend without water, another water crisis is threatening in Kimberley.
Reserves at Newton Reservoir are depleted after 160 mega litres of water was consumed since yesterday morning.
According to Councillor Johan Smit of the DA there may be no alternative but to implement water shedding if consumers do not immediately cut down on water usage.
He further appealed to the public not to excessively water gardens and lawns.
On Social Media Sharon Steyn, CEO of NOCCI, also made an urgent appeal to residents to save water “The water consumption that was used since the water went on yesterday morning is so high that the Reservoirs are very low. It would not surprise me at all if SP resorts to water restrictions now to fill up the Reservoirs again.” “This is now a CRISIS.”

“Inwoners word versoek om water uiters spaarsamig te gebruik.
Alle reserves by Newton is op gebruik.
Die damme is leeg.
Daar is van gisteroggend af tot nou 160 Mega liter water gebruik.
As ons as die verbruiker so aangaan is waterbeperkings on voorland.
Groot gedeeltes van Kimberley is tans sonder water of uiters swak druk.
Sodra ek meer inligting gekry het sal ek dit deel.
Tuine en grasperke moet groot asb nie oordadig natgemaak word nie.”

Kimberley there are a lot of complaints re areas with NO WATER. There are two burst pipes that we know off and they are been seen to. BUT this is now just my 5cents worth and what I am hearing. The water consumption that was used since the water went on yesterday morning is so high that the Reservoirs are very low. It would not surprise me at all if SP resorts to water restrictions now to fill up the Reservoirs again. People let us all try and think logically and I know I am going to be slammed now for saying this, but if the Reservoir has no water SP will have to switch off. Can all not try and water Gardens at night and not in the day. Also use the water sparingly, we have a drought in our Country friends, it’s fact that we could also get water restrictions like other Provinces. This is now a CRISIS. Let us ALL help this issue so that we don’t end up with water restrictions.
