UPDATE: 3 May 2023 – 13:00

There appears to be a time confusion as to when the Water Shutdown would take place on Thursday 4 May 2023. We have just received confirmation now from a reliable source that the commencement time of the shutdown is 18:00 (6pm) and not 20:00 (8pm) anymore as previously communicated. We will however keep tabs on this and if any changes arise again, we will post out another update.

The current correct time is from Thursday, 4 May 2023 at 18:00pm until Sunday 7 May 2023 at 18:00pm.

    UPDATE: 26 April 2023 – 10:13

In order to undertake the upgrades and improvements necessary on the main supply pipelines, a smartball exercise needs to be undertaken, which is a technology used to establish leakages in a water pipeline. A water interruption is required to replace these dysfunctional isolation valves as preparatory work at both Riverton Plant and Newton Eeservoir. This will also include a number of projects that will help improve the Municipality’s water security.

The Municipality will therefore have a planned water interruption for the entire city from Thursday evening @ 20:00 the 04th May until 18:00pm on the 07th May 2023.

In the long term this exercise marks the beginning of a huge improvement in the water quality and water supply assurance to the Municipality.

Roaming tankers and flatbed trucks will be made available to residents, the plans and placement of Jojos will be communicated.

We urge residents to also make adequate supply provision to carry them through the duration of the interruption.

    UPDATE: 5 April 2023 – 17:15

In order to undertake the upgrades and improvements necessary on the main supply pipelines, a Smartball exercise needs to be undertaken, which is a technology used to establish leakages in a water pipeline. The Smartball Leak detection on the Bulk line commenced in November 2022, but could not be concluded due to some of the dysfunctional isolation valves in the main water supply pipelines.

As a result that this exercise was not completed, a shutdown is required to replace these dysfunctional isolation valves as preparatory work to facilitate the completion of the Smart ball investigation, which is planned for May 2023. At the same time, bulk water meter insertion probes will also be installed on the 600 and 900mm bulk pipelines to enable water loss measurements on the bulk water supply.

    SHUTDOWN
The water interruption will take place on Friday, 21 April 2023 at 06:00am until Sunday 23 April 2023 at
    18:00pm.
This will provide the Municipality with enough time to fully drain the affected pipe sections, undertake the repairs and restore the water supply to all communities.

This exercise marks the beginning of a huge improvement in the water quality and water supply assurance to the Municipality for the future.

Further information regarding the placement of roaming water tankers and JOJO Tanks, which will be placed in various wards will be communicated.
