MANAGERS at Sol Plaatje are set to receive an annual remuneration package of between R1.1 million and R1.59 million – together with an additional 10 percent for scarce skills and a rural allowance.
Cope councillor, Rosie Ludick, called for an investigation into the salaries of senior officials and the municipal manager “as well as the huge payouts they received recently”. From his side, DA councillor Phillip Vorster said it was important to look at what council paid for and what it got. “There is also a discrepancy between what is on the table and what managers are already getting. It is quite clear that people are being overpaid and we need to have a plan on the table to correct this.”
The Speaker, Mangaliso Matika, pointed out that the council could not raise the issue of salaries when it was agreed that the municipal manager was doing a good job. “The municipality is stable. How can councillors say managers are being paid but not delivering? Who has assessed them?”
