Kimberley Water Supply UPDATE – 20 Dec 2022

UPDATE: 20 December 2022 – 06:50

We have completed the installation of 4 motors at Riverton and all were put into operation at about 20:00pm last night. Riverton is back in operation with 2 High Lift Pumps running.

Water supply has been reinstated in all areas, however high lying areas may still not have water or experience low pressure. This will improve during the course of the day.

Reservoir levels are still low, and we may be required to shutdown water in the evenings in order to replenish levels.

Please report areas that may still not have water. As you open taps, air and or dirty water may come.out. this is normal after water has been off for days.

We take this opportunity to thank our communities, for their perseverance and understanding, and to all those who assisted members of the public with water from their boreholes, Jojos and tankers, we highly appreciate it.

We will still have trucks roaming especially in areas where water has not been restored yet.

UPDATE: 18 December 2022 – 06:18

Riverton Purification Plant Update:

The Last 2 motors have been taken for drying , and the 1 repared/dried motor has been returned to the pump station. Due to float assembling difficulties on the strong water current, all 4 motors shall be offloaded on Monday, and be installed. As such, pumping can only start after all 4 motors have been assembled and installed.

The Success of this exercise, and completion time, will determine when water will be available.

Water supply will still continue throughout the wards, we are doing what we can with the Llimited water trucks available.

UPDATE: 15 December 2022 – 20:49

Challenges at the Water Purification Plant

As a Municipality we are currently experiencing water purification problems in Riverton. While removing a faulty pump and a motor we had a malfunction on one of the valves. This led to the flooding of the pumps and motors on the abstraction side.

Unfortunately for us to get the pumps back in operation the motors and cables would need to be removed and tested at the workshop for possible water ingress.

Water shedding will immediately be implemented, so we don’t deplete our Levels at the reservoirs. We will keep the public informed on progress regarding the matter.

Residents will therefore notice low pressure due to this.

We regret the inconvenience.
