A false claim on attempted kidnappings at Spur Restaurant play areas are doing the rounds on Kimberley Facebook Groups and WhatsApp Groups.
When this false claim first surfaced in South Africa about 2 years ago, Spur Corporation launched an investigation, starting with those who posted it. The investigation could not produce a trace of any evidence or any reports to substantiate the claims. After the investigation Spur Corporation stated in a media release “None of the posters of this message have been able to reference the CPF report mentioned. There has never been any customer complaint, nor any report to the South African Police, of any nature pertaining to the above incident.”
We assure all readers that child safety is of the highest priority to us therefore all Spur play areas are equipped with camera’s and have child minders who are there to protect children from any potential harm.
While we can understand why this message has been re-posted so many times as this is an extremely emotive subject, we encourage people to identify the source and the validity of such claims before sharing them. In order to protect our brand, and the reputation of our franchisees and staff, we kindly ask that you delete this malicious and slanderous mail and if you receive it, to refrain from re-posting it as the sharing of this defamatory message could result in legal action.“
