Every festive season there is an increase of un-permitted vehicles using disabled parking bays. Please keep these bays open for the disabled.
Disabled parking bays are reserved for persons with physical impairment who need an assistive device for mobility. The device (wheelchair, walker, calipers, crutches, prostheses) needs you to have a wider parking bay [3,5m as opposed to the normal 2,5m] to exit or enter a vehicle. Application forms are obtained from the Traffic Dept at the Market Square. The permit is white disability sign on blue background.
Disabled parking areas at malls: Security/management may give a person with a mobility problem permission to park there without a disabled parking permit. If you see a photo here where this was the case, please inform us and will update the photo caption. Readers will then know the vehicle was parked there with permission, even though it had no disabled parking permit displayed.
THE DISABLED PERMIT DISC MUST BE PROMINENTLY DISPLAYED IN THE VEHICLES WINDSCREEN.
If you see a vehicle without the disability disc parked in a parking space for people with disabilities please take a photograph and send it to us at news@kimberley.co.za or via our facebook page or profile. Also include the date, time and place the photograph was taken. To protect your privacy we will not display the source of the photo except if requested.
