Armed Robbery at Kimberley Butchery

An alleged armed robber was wounded in a shoot-out with police and another arrested following an armed robbery at a shop in Kimberley on Thursday afternoon, Northern Cape police said.

Police were summoned to an alleged business robbery at a butchery near Phutanang in Kimberley at about 5.15pm, Captain Sergio Kock said.

“It is alleged that five Afrikaans and Setswana speaking male suspects entered the butchery where they shot and injured one of the male employees. The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money and ran into a nearby veld where one of the suspects was wounded in the crossfire between the police and the alleged robbers.”

Another male suspect was also arrested in the veld by the police. Police were still searching for three other suspects and requested that the community do not approach them as they were armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information regarding the incident could call Detective Captain Doggy Magugu on 074-580-7338. All information would be treated in the strictest of confidence. The investigation was continuing, Kock said.
