UPDATE: 15 August 2023 – 11:15
Non Supply of water:
There is a number of areas that are still without water supply, our waterworks team is investigating the cause of no supply.
In other areas there were several valves stolen which caused areas not to get supply of water. In those cases valves will be replaced.
Nightly water interruptions have been implemented daily from 20:00pm – 04:00am until we have reached full capacity at the reservoir which will be communicated to residents.

UPDATE: 14 August 2023 – 15:04
We are aware that Residents that are being fed directly from the Newton Reservoir have not had supply restored due the levels that are still low.
We have closed all the offtakes supplying Galeshewe to allow us to supply water to the town area as well, this will be done for a short period thereafter Galeshewe will be restored again.
Galeshewe supply is off for now to allow us to lift levels at the Newton Reservoir to supply the surrounding areas.
Nightly water interruptions will be implemented from tonight at 20:00pm- 04:00am until we have reached full capacity at the reservoir which will be communicated to residents.

UPDATE: 14 August 2023 – 11:00
Cllr Joseph and myself went to do oversight at Riverton.
The municipality is currently replacing steel bolts on one of the joints with high tensile bolts.
Once work is complete, the valve will be opened to increase water levels.
When the level is sufficient, booster pumps will kick in and water will be sent at sufficient pressure to Newton.
This could take another 5 to 6 hours.
Regards
Chris Whittaker

UPDATE: 01 August 2023 – 14:20
This is an Emergency Water Interruption, due to excessive leaks.
The purpose of the scheduled water interruption is to effect repairs to all major leaks on the 965mm and 600mm bulk water pipelines, and at Riverton WPW pump station, which directly affects the water levels at the reservoirs. The leak next to the HLP is threatening the integrity of the new pump station. The interruption will also present an opportunity to incorporate the repair of major leaks on the reticulation network. Leak on the Rising main manifold, at Riverton WPW, shall be repaired as well as cleaning of Clarifier #6 in Riverton WPW. Repair of leaks at Newton Reservoir Complex will also be attended to during the scheduled interruption, if time allows. At the same time, bulk water meter insertion probes will also be installed on the 600 and 900mm bulk pipelines to enable water loss measurements on the bulk water supply.
2. Shut Down
The water interruption will take place on Wednesday, 09th August 2023 at 18:00pm until Monday 14th August 2023 23:00pm. This will provide the Municipality with enough time to fully drain the affected pipe sections, undertake the repairs and restore the water supply to all communities. This exercise marks the beginning of a huge improvement in the water quality and water supply assurance to the Municipality for the future.
Further information regarding the placement of roaming water tankers and JOJO Tanks, which will be placed in various wards will be communicated.
