TODAY IN KIMBERLEY’S HISTORY 28 SEPTEMBER
28 September 1994, The Transport Museum at the Railway Station opens.
The Railway Station Museum
The Kimberley Transport Museum is situated in the part of the railway station previously used as a railway restaurant/café and Post Office. It was officially opened on 28 September 1994.
Included among the displays are a velocipede used during the Anglo-Boer War, a photo exhibition depicting the development of the railway in the Northern Cape, and a walk down memory lane.
The first train to Kimberley arrived on 28 November 1885.
The station itself was built in 1886 and opened officially on Saturday 31 July 1886.
