No more empty promises!

Yesterday Roodepan residents took to the streets saying they were frustrated with repeated promises made by the Sol Plaatje Municipality which were never kept.

“This is now the second time that we had to resort to closing this road. After last year’s protest the municipality promised better services, but nothing has improved. We are still staying in the same shanties, with no water and no toilets. There are communal toilets, which five households have to share, leaving our children susceptible to diseases.

“We have to use buckets at night as it is unsafe to go outside to the communal toilets because there are no street lights or electricity in our homes. We do not want better houses, we now want electricity and sanitation – the houses can come later,” one angry Ivory Park resident said. Read more in the DFA
