New loadshedding schedules for the Kimberley Sol Plaatje areas will be released by Monday, 1 June 2015, according to Sello Matsie, the Municipal Spokes Person.
UPDATE: SOL PLAATJE IS STILL WORKING ON THE SCHEDULES AND CANNOT PROVIDE AN ETA AT THE MOMENT.
The new loadshedding schedules will consist of 4 different Stages to coincide with Eskom’s new 4 Stages of loadshedding. For the duration of a Stage 4 implementation Eskom requires that roughly one third of the City’s electricity has to shed.
Where Eskom previously switched off the whole of Kimberley on Stage 3, Sol Plaatje Municipality will now control Stage 3 and 4 on a cyclic schedule, shedding a combination of different substation areas at a time.
The new schedules will cover all 24 hours of the day to cater for the remote possibility that Eskom may require load to be shed outside the standard loadshedding window of 08:00 to 22:00. (Also note that Eskom has recently indicated that it may extend the Standard loadshedding window to 07:00 to 22:00 rather than the usual 08:00 to 22:00).
The current 6 Loadshedding areas will be re-grouped to form 9 Loadshedding Areas which should result in no double loadshedding slots on Stage 2 for any areas during standard loadshedding times.
From Monday electricity will be switched off for sub areas currently not being shed because they were grouped with essential infrastructure equipment, pump stations or hospitals. The CBD will also be back on the loadshedding schedule, after lately not being shed to accommodate the upgrading off the Hall Street Substation.
Figures break down.
Eskom supply the Kimberley Sol Plaatje Municipality with a maximum of 100 MVA of electricity.
On Stage 1 only Geysers will be shed. On Stage 2 only 1 Substation will be switched off for 2 hours at a time while one Stage 3 and 4 respectively 2 and 3 substations will be shed at a time.
Updated versions of the loadshedding schedules will be published here as soon as it is finalised.
The Updated Northern Cape Loadshedding schedules which was distributed in Kimberley on Wednesday is ONLY FOR DIRECT ESKOM CUSTOMERS and is NOT for areas served by the Sol Plaatje Municipality.
