To celebrate Gingerbread House Day, take the family out for a shopping trip and pick up the supplies necessary to make a gingerbread house. As of today (11 December 2021), the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service reports 17 154 new COVID-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 129 622. This increase represents a 16.4% positivity rate.
As per the National Department of Health, a further 36 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 90 116 to date.
20 176 391 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.
The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (50%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (15%). Western Cape accounted for 9%; North West accounted for 7%; Mpumalanga accounted for 6%; Free State accounted for 5%; Eastern Cape accounted for 4%; Limpopo accounted for 3%; and Northern Cape accounted for 1% of today’s new cases.
NORTHERN CAPE COVID-19 STATISTICS AS AT 11 DECEMBER 2021
The National Department of Health announced an additional 236 people testing positive for COVID-19 in the Northern Cape in the past 24 hours. The Province cumulative total currently stands at 94 364 people infected with COVID-19. Today’s average positivity rate stand at 22.8%.
Frances Baard continues to account for the highest daily infections, today recording 185 new cases, followed by JT Gaetsewe (23), ZF Mgcawu (17), Pixley ka Seme (7) and Namakwa (3) while 1 case is unallocated.
There were no new COVID-19 related death reported in the Province for the past 72 hours. However, six (6) deaths have been updated as a result of the backlog from previous months. The total cumulative deaths stand at 2 434.

The Province average recovery rate currently stands at 96%, representing a cumulative total of 90 574 people who have recovered from COVID-19. And the number of total active cases stands at 1 589.
As on 09 Dec, the Province had a total of forty-three (43) patients currently admitted (due to COVID-19 related complications) in our health care facilities.
