As of today (12 September 2021), the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service reports 3 961 new COVID-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2 858 195. This increase represents an 11.0% positivity rate.
As per the National Department of Health, a further 126 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 84 877 to date.
17 073 236 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.
The majority of new cases today are from KwaZulu-Natal (28%), followed by Eastern Cape (20%). Western Cape accounted for 18%; Northern Cape accounted for 9%; Free State & Gauteng Province each accounted for 8% respectively; Mpumalanga & North West each accounted for 4%, and Limpopo accounted for 1% of today’s new cases.
NORTHERN CAPE COVID-19 STATISTICS AS AT 12 SEP 2021
The National Department of Health announced an additional 363 people testing positive for COVID-19 in the Northern Cape in the past 24 hours. The Province has a cumulative total of 86 718 people infected with COVID-19.
Namakwa reported the highest infections today with 112 cases, followed by Frances Baard (101), ZF Mgcawu (80), Pixley ka Seme (39) and JT Gaetsewe (30) while 1 case is unallocated.
There were six (6) newly recorded deaths (related to COVID-19 complications) reported today. These are from: Frances Baard (1), JT Gaetsewe (2) and ZF Mgcawu (3). The Province total cumulative deaths increased to 2 063.

The number of total active cases currently stand at 6 679.
There were 178 people reported to have recovered from the disease. The Province average recovery rate remains 90%, representing a cumulative total of 77 974 people who have recovered from COVID-19.
