TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES – CBD: 24 Nov – 11 Dec 2020

ROADS will be closed for maintenance in the Kimberley CBD between 24 November 2020 and 11 December 2020. Sello Matsie, the spokesperson for Sol Plaatje Municipality, said that priority and main roads will also undergo periodic maintenance and intensive resealing.
Roads affected include sections of Quinn Street (between Phakamile Mabija & Lennox Street), Long Street (between Carters Road & Waterworks Road), Bultfontein and Quinn Streets.

Current dam levels are increasing, so no Nightly Shutdown is envisaged. Repairs are also being done on major pipe bursts. If anything changes, we will keep all updated.

TODAY IS PINS AND NEEDLES DAY
Pins and Needles Day might not have its origins in what you think! Though when we say ‘pins and needles’ today, you’ll think of that tingly feeling you get when your leg goes to sleep, the original Pins and Needles Day started up in 1937 to commemorate the opening of the pro-Labor musical play of the same name on Broadway. The production would eventually have a massive 1108 performance run, but its namesake day has grown to mean something else entirely.
How to celebrate Pins and Needles Day
Perhaps Pins and Needles day would be a good opportunity to listen to the musical’s soundtrack, revisit some old musicals from the 1930s and 40s.

COVID-19 INFO
As of today (26 Nov 2020), the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases is 778 571 with 3 069 new cases identified since the last report.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 5 383 078 with 28 010 new tests conducted since the last report.
Regrettably, 88 more COVID-19 related deaths have been reported: Eastern Cape 33, Free State 25, Gauteng 5, Kwa-Zulu Natal 2, Limpopo 5 and Western Cape 18.
This brings the total deaths to 21 289.
We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers that treated the deceased patients.
As National Department of Health, we have identified that there is a need to reconcile data in Gauteng Province.
We have brought this to the attention of the Province and they have indicated that they are in the process of harmonizing the data.
For this reason we will not be reporting the recoveries and active cases in the Province for today while we await the urgent conclusion of these processes
Officials from Gauteng Province have indicated that they are giving urgent attention to the issue of data reconciliation. In addition, we have deployed a team to assist them to resolve the issue expediently.
NORTHERN CAPE COVID-19 STATISTICS AS AT 26 NOVEMBER 2020
The Minister of Health announced an additional 51 people testing positive for COVID-19 in the Northern Cape, bringing the cumulative total to 23 095 people.
No new COVID-19 related death was reported in the past 48 hours.
The number of recoveries stands increased to 20 061 with the recovery rate standing at 87%.
