UPDATE 05:50 – 16/01/2017 VIA Sello Matsie of Sol Plaatje Municipality
“Work is being finalised on the Bultfontein road pipe through welding the top part of it. The unfortunate news is that while working it was realised a larger part needed repairs. The pipe is more corroded than anything. Work on the Old De Beers road 100 meter pipe replacement and Phakamile Mabija has been  completed. The expected time of completion should be around 8am the team indicate. Apology for the delay”

NOTE FROM Kimberley City Portal : Remember that after what ever time the repairs are completed and the pumps at Newton Reservoir are started; pressure still have to build up in the system and it can take a considerable time until all areas have water.

UPDATE 21:15 – 15/01/2017 VIA Johan Smit

UPDATE 19:54 – 15/01/2017 VIA Johan Smit
Dit gaan so mm vir mm. Liewer voorsorg tref.”Kimberley Water Shutdown - Bultfontein FotoKimberley Water Shutdown - Bultfontein Foto

UPDATE 18:15 15/01/2017 VIA Johan Smit

UPDATE 17:34 15/01/2017 VIA Sello Matsie of Sol Plaatje Municipality
“Teams have already removed 100 meters of old steel pipes in old De Beers road. Currently replacing a six meters pipe in Phakamile Mabija Street and cutting open the 750 at Bultfontein road. So far work is on track – Photos Bultfontein road. Phakamile Mabija and Old De Beers road”

UPDATE 17:00 15/01/2017 VIA Johan Smit

Water Interruption update: By 13:50 work has not started at the Bultfontein intersection.”

UPDATE 15/01/2017 12:15 VIA JOHAN SMIT

UPDATE 2017/01/15 11:15
Although Sol Plaatje’s information release stated that areas will be affected only from 13:00, reports are that the water from Newton reservoir has already been switch off, and multiple neighbourhoods are reporting no water or very low pressure.

UPDATE 10:15AM 15/01/2017
Reports that water pressure as starting decline are coming through from residents in some areas.

ORIGINAL INFORMATION

Sol Plaatje Municipality will shutdown water at Newton Reservoir to large parts of Kimberley at around midday on Sunday, 15 January 2017 to enable repairs to a leak on the c/o Bultfontein Road and Long Street.  According to Municipal Spokes Person, Sello Matsie, the repair is not expected to take more than two hours, but can only be started once the water has been drained from the system. “The repair work will be finished the same day” he stated.

After the information was released Johan Smit advised residents to have extra water stored as similar repairs in the past took much longer than anticipated by Sol Plaatje Municipality.

At the same times repairs will also be done on a pipe leak in Jones Street.
