Water flow from Riverton has been restored, but water levels in the Newton reservoir is still critical.
Please use water sparingly until water level in the reservoirs has been restored to normal.
Without any reserves to fall back on any supply problem can place Kimberley back into a full water crisis.

We received an update from Johan Smith DA via Sharon Steyn that there is currently no water in the reservoirs at Newton Waterworks and apparently no water is currently coming in from the Riverton plant.
Please prepare for the possibility that Kimberley will only have water by tomorrow morning or even later.

Latest Notice from Sol Plaatje Municipality: “All pumps are back up and running again and water should be restored shortly however a planned shutdown will be implemented from 22h00 tonight to 05h00 tomorrow morning to get the levels of Newton reservoir up to an optimal level. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience”

We received information from Sol Plaatje Municipality that water should be back on by 20:30, tonight. Unfortunately from past experience we expect that this might well not happen in the given time frame.

Sol Plaatje Municipality just send out a notice of possible water shutdowns as of tonight if the current problems don’t improve.

“We are experiencing some serious problems at the moment on the water supply from Riverton. While the maintenance at our Riverton purification plant went well yesterday, water demand is surpassing supply levels and we have initiated the booster pump at Newton to boost the low pressure levels in the system. Areas that are experiencing low pressure is mainly in the CBD and high lying areas. Kindly use water sparingly. Should the problem not improve, we will commence with water shut downs from tonight to up the levels until further notice.”
