COVID-19 INFO
As of today (20 October 2021), the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service reports 591 new COVID-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2 917 846. This increase represents a 1.7% positivity rate.
As per the National Department of Health, a further 80 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 88 754 to date.
18 251 789 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.
The majority of new cases today are from KwaZulu-Natal (22%), followed by Western Cape (21%). Free State and Gauteng Province each accounted for 12%; Eastern Cape, North West and Northern Cape each accounted for 9% respectively; Mpumalanga accounted for 5%; and Limpopo accounted for 1% of today’s new cases.
NORTHERN CAPE COVID-19 STATISTICS AS AT 20 OCTOBER 2021
The National Department of Health announced an additional 51 people testing positive for COVID-19 in the Northern Cape in the past 24 hours. The Province cumulative total currently stands at 92 094 people infected with COVID-19.
In today’s update, Frances Baard reported the highest infections with 15 cases, followed by Namakwa (12), ZF Mgcawu (10), while JT Gaetsewe and Pixley ka Seme had 7 cases each.
Today, there were four (4) new deaths (related to COVID-19 complications) reported across the Province, all occurred during this month. These new deaths are from: Frances Baard (1), Namakwa (1), Pixley ka Seme (1) and 1 unallocated. The Province total cumulative deaths currently stand at 2 237.
We convey our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the families and loved ones of the departed.
The number of total active cases dropped below the 2000 mark, currently standing at 1 722.
The Province average recovery rate stand at 96%, representing a cumulative total of 88 135 people who have recovered from COVID-19. All five districts in the Province maintained a recovery rate of above 90%.
