COVID-19 INFO
As of today (7 October 2021), the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service reports 989 new COVID-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2 909 757. This increase represents a 2.9% positivity rate.
As per the National Department of Health, a further 123 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 88 104 to date.
17 898 602 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.
The majority of new cases today are from KwaZulu-Natal (20%), followed by Western Cape (19%). Gauteng Province accounted for 16%; Eastern Cape accounted for 13%; Free State accounted for 11%; Northern Cape accounted for 10%; Mpumalanga and North West each accounted for 5% respectively; and Limpopo accounted for 2% of today’s new cases.
NORTHERN CAPE COVID-19 STATISTICS AS AT 07 OCTOBER 2021
The National Department of Health announced an additional 97 people testing positive for COVID-19 in the Northern Cape in the past 24 hours. The Province cumulative total currently stands at 91 366 people infected with COVID-19.
In today’s update, Frances Baard having the highest infections with 29 cases, followed by JT Gaetsewe (20), while Pixley ka Seme, Namakwa and ZF Mgcawu with 17, 16 and 15, respectively.
Today, there were three (3) new deaths (related to COVID-19 complications) reported across the Province. These new cases are from: JT Gaetsewe (2) and ZF Mgcawu (1). The Province total cumulative deaths currently stands at 2 206.
We convey our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the families and loved ones of the departed.
The number of total active cases currently standing at 4 566.
There were 215 people reported to have recovered from the disease. The Province average recovery rate increased slightly to 93%, representing a cumulative total of 84 594 people who have recovered from COVID-19.
