COVID-19 INFO
As of today (22 September 2021), the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service reports 2,967 new COVID-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2,889,298. This increase represents a 7.0% positivity rate.
As per the National Department of Health, a further 124 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 86,500 to date.
17,452,783 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.
The majority of new cases today are from KwaZulu-Natal (23%), followed by Western Cape (20%). Eastern Cape accounted for 12%; Free State & Gauteng Province each accounted for 11% respectively; Northern Cape accounted for 8%; North West accounted for 7%; Mpumalanga accounted for 6%; and Limpopo accounted for 2% of today’s new cases.
NORTHERN CAPE COVID-19 STATISTICS AS AT 22 SEP 2021
The National Department of Health announced an additional 250 people testing positive for COVID-19 in the Northern Cape in the past 24 hours. The Province has a cumulative total of 89 327 people infected with COVID-19.
In today’s update, Frances Baard had the highest infections with 122 cases, followed by both ZF Mgcawu and Namakwa with 41 cases each, JT Gaetsewe (30) and Pixley ka Seme with 16 cases.
There were seventeen (17) new deaths (related to COVID-19 complications) reported today. These deaths are from: Frances Baard (13), Pixley ka Seme (2), Namakwa (1) and JT Gaetsewe (1). The Province total cumulative deaths increased to 2 165.
We convey our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the families and loved ones of the departed.
The number of total active cases is standing at 5 701.
There were 226 people reported to have recovered from the disease. The Province average recovery rate remains 91%, representing a cumulative total of 81 459 people who have recovered from COVID-19.
