According the Municipal Spokesperson, Sello Matsie, the water supply has been restored.

Note it can take some time for the water distribution network to fill up and water to reach all households.

11:50 Friday, 5 OCT 2018: UPDATE – Kimberley City Wide Water Shutdown

Welding and related repair work on the pipeline has started on in all areas. Water levels in the pipe has dropped to levels of enabling the teams to conduct repairs. Thanks for the cooperation and the inconvenience is regrettable.

05:00 Friday, 5 OCT 2018: Kimberley City Wide Shutdown Schedule and Information

Seven teams will be doing the repairs on the two pipelines used to pump water from The Riverton Pumping Station to Kimberley.  There are three holes in the 600mm and four in the 965mm pipeline which needs to be repaired.  Three teams will work on the 600mm pipeline and four teams on the 965mm pipeline. 

Work was scheduled to start as soon as water has drained from the pipelines which is expected to be early this morning.

As the municipality is expecting work to be completed later today (Friday) no JoJo tans will be set out during this shutdown.  Sol Plaatje Emergency Services will be assisting with water supply to hospitals and other institutions where needed.

According to Sello Matsie, the Municipal Spokesperson, the municipality is determined to have the water supply fully restored before on or before early Saturday.

In preparation for tomorrow’s work on the pipelines between Riverton Pumping Station and the City of Kimberley water to the city has been switched off and water pressure in Kimberley’s taps are dropping fast. The average water level at Newton Reservoir was 14.11 feet at the time of switch off.
