UPDATE: DELAYS – BULK WATER SUPPLY RESTORATION SET FOR 22:00
* Cable connections completed. Load setting in progress amid the upgrade of the electrical transformer at Riverton Water Treatment Works. A new 10 MVA transformer is being integrated into the system to replace the older one.
* Delays were also experienced on the 600mm diameter pipeline leak at Chris Hani Park leak.
This upgrade is part of the R2.5 billion investment by the National Government in Sol Plaatje Municipality’s bulk water supply infrastructure. The project aims to improve water supply reliability and reduce water losses.
We extend our apologies for the delays experienced and trust that residents will bear with us.
Our reservoirs at Newton are near full and pumps will be put into operation after 22:00.
Kind regards,

REPAIR WORK ON 600MM DIAMETER PIPELINE IN CHRIS HANI PARK NEARLY COMPLETE
Back filling has been completed on one of the two leaks on the 600mm diameter pipeline in Chris Hani Park. While welding is progressing well on the other.
Residents in the area had complained about the two leaks during their protest action over the past week. The municipality committed to act swiftly, and the work in the area is part of a number of minor leaks being attended to in today’s 12-hour water supply interruption.
The repairs will provide relief; ease of access, and unhindered movement in the wake of water-logged roads and the resultant trenches.

UPDATE: 31 July 2025 – 18:00
ALERT: TWELVE-HOUR WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION IN ENTIRE KIMBERLEY ON SUNDAY, 03 AUGUST 2025 FROM 06:00 TO 18:00
Residents are hereby informed that the pumps at Riverton Water Treatment Works will be switched off, and the pumps at the Newton Reservoirs will also be put out of operation to avoid depleting them.
REASON FOR THE INTERRUPTION AND SCOPE OF WORK ON SUNDAY
* Upgrading the Electrical Transformer: The new 10 MVA Transformer at Riverton WTW will be fully integrated into the system, replacing the old transformers, which will be disconnected, and the load changed.
* In addition, we will also install another 900 diameter valve upstream of Midstation similar to the valve that was installed downstream.
PLEASE STORE WATER FOR 12-HOURS
We trust that residents will make all necessary arrangements for Sunday’s twelve-hour water supply interruption. This multi-million rand electrical upgrade is drawn from the National Government’s investment in our water supply infrastructure.
We thank you for your anticipated cooperation and patience.
