REPAIR WORK IN PROGRESS AMID OUTAGE AFFECTING FEW STREETS SURROUNDING HERCULES STREET SUBSTATION
》Intensive cleaning is underway at the Hercules Street Substation in Herlear following an explosion of this morning that left four of the municipality’s electricians injured with burn wounds.
》The old Ring Main Unit (RMU) has been removed and a new one is being installed. Repair work is also been effected on cables on the substation precinct.
》 Power supply to the affected few streets in the vicinity of the substation is most likely to be restored in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

POWER OUTAGE NOW RESTRICTED TO A FEW STREETS SURROUNDING HERCULES STREET SUBSTATION
》 The Department of Labour has completed its assessment at the explosion site, Hercules Street Substation in Herlear. Four of the municipality’s electricians sustained burn injuries in the explosion of this morning at 09h00. One of our colleagues is critically injured.
The Municipal Manager Mr Thapelo Matlala and some of the senior managers paid the three a visit in hospital and met with the family of the critically injured colleague.
REPAIR WORK
》Isolation of neighbouring substations has been done and only a few streets surrounding the Hercules Street Substation are still without power at this stage.
》Intensive cleaning of the substation is set to unfold as the explosion involved the spillage of oil. A Ring Main Unit (RMU) is also likely to be replaced.

FOUR OF THE MUNICIPALITY’S ELECTRICIANS INJURED IN HERCULES STREET SUBSTATION EXPLOSION
》 It is with deep regret that we hereby inform the public of the injuries sustained by four of our employees, the electricians that were on-call attending to a cable fault at the Hercules Street Substation at about 09h00 this morning when the explosion occurred.
They were rushed to hospital for immediate medical attention.
POWER OUTAGE IN PARTS OF HERLEAR AND BEACONSFIELD
》 A prolonged outage should be expected due to the circumstances surrounding the explosion. The Department of Labour will be conducting an assessment from 12h30 before the substation could be handed back to the municipality for repair work to unfold.

According to information received there is currently an electricity outage affecting Herlear, Beaconsfield and possibly surrounding areas as well. Sol Plaatje Municipality are aware of the issue and will assist ASAP.
