As of today (18 May 2021), the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases identified in South Africa is 1 617 840.
The number of tests conducted to date is 11 166 950. Of these 32 397 tests were conducted since the last report.
Today, 80 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported: Eastern Cape 6, Free State 22, Gauteng 32, Kwa-Zulu Natal 5, Limpopo 6, Mpumalanga 0, North West 0, Northern Cape 0 and Western Cape 9 which brings the total to 55 340 deaths. Free State and Gauteng Provinces have been back-capturing deaths over April and May as part of their auditing processes.
We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased patients.
The cumulative recoveries now stand at 1 527 968 representing a recovery rate of 94,4%.
NORTHERN CAPE COVID-19 STATISTICS AS AT 18 May 2021
The Minister of Health announced an additional 224 people testing positive for COVID-19 in the Northern Cape today. The Province cumulative total is currently standing at 45 167 people.
Today, Frances Baard recorded the highest infections with 109 cases, followed by Pixley ka Seme (46), JT Gaetsewe (36), ZF Mgcawu (29), and Namakwa with 4 cases.
Today, there are no newly recorded COVID-19 related deaths reported. The Province total cumulative deaths remain 987.

The number of total active cases in the Province currently stand at 6 207.
There were 174 people reported to have recovered from the disease in the past 72 hours. The Province average recovery rate stand at 84%, representing a cumulative total of 37 971 people who have recovered from COVID-19.
