As of today (19 May 2021), the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases identified in South Africa is 1 621 362.
The number of tests conducted to date is 11 207 305. Of these 40 355 tests were conducted since the last report.
Today, 167 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported: Eastern Cape 3, Free State 38, Gauteng 35, Kwa-Zulu Natal 6, Limpopo 19, Mpumalanga 3, North West 46, Northern Cape 7 and Western
Cape 10 which brings the total to 55 507 deaths.
Provinces are back capturing data as far back as December 2020 as part of their COVID-19 mortality audits.
We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased patients.
The cumulative recoveries now stand at 1 528 868 representing a recovery rate of 94,2%
NORTHERN CAPE COVID-19 STATISTICS AS AT 19 May 2021
The Minister of Health announced an additional 466 people testing positive for COVID-19 in the Northern Cape today. The Province cumulative total is currently standing at 45 634 people.
Today, Frances Baard recorded the highest infections with 190 cases, followed by ZF Mgcawu (103), Pixley ka Seme (95), JT Gaetsewe (35), and Namakwa with 4 cases while 1 case is unallocated. Since start of the week, Sol Plaatje LM has reported 414 cases, leading all local municipalities in the Province. The local municipality remain the epicenter accounting 42% of Province newly reported cases in the three-day period.
Today, there are seven (7) newly recorded COVID-19 related deaths, of which 6 occurred in the past 72 hours. These new deaths are from: Frances Baard (2), JT Gaetsewe (1) and ZF Mgcawu (4). The Province total cumulative deaths increased to 994, slowly approaching the 1 000 mark.

The number of total active cases in the Province currently stand at 6 539.
There were 128 people reported to have recovered from the disease in the past 72 hours. The Province average recovery rate stand at 83%, representing a cumulative total of 38 099 people who have recovered from COVID-19.
