As of today (24 September 2021), the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service reports 2,261 new COVID-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2,894,342. This increase represents a 6.4% positivity rate.
As per the National Department of Health, a further 312 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 86,967 to date.
17,528,759 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.
The majority of new cases today are from KwaZulu-Natal (21%), followed by Western Cape (20%). Free State accounted for 13%; Northern Cape accounted for 12%; Eastern Cape accounted for 11%; Gauteng Province accounted for 10%; North West accounted for 6%; and Limpopo accounted for 1% of today’s new cases.
NORTHERN CAPE COVID-19 STATISTICS AS AT 24 SEP 2021
The National Department of Health announced an additional 279 people testing positive for COVID-19 in the Northern Cape in the past 24 hours. The Province has a cumulative total of 89 938 people infected with COVID-19.
In today’s update, Frances Baard had the highest infections with 71 cases, followed by ZF Mgcawu (66), Pixley ka Seme and JT Gaetsewe with 57 and 56 cases, respectively, and Namakwa (28) while 1 case is unallocated.
There were no new deaths (related to COVID-19 complications) reported today. The Province total cumulative deaths currently srand at 2 168.

The number of total active cases is standing at 5 592.
There were 185 people reported to have recovered from the disease. The Province average recovery rate remains 91%, representing a cumulative total of 82 176 people who have recovered from COVID-19.
