COVID-19 INFO
As of today (09 December 2021), the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service reports 22 391 new COVID-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 093 452. This increase represents a 29.8% positivity rate.
As per the National Department of Health, a further 22 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 90 060 to date.
19 988 045 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.
The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (53%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (12%). Western Cape accounted for 10%; North West accounted for 6%; Free State, Limpopo and Mpumalanga each accounted for 5% respectively; Eastern Cape accounted for 4%; and Northern Cape accounted for 1% of today’s new cases.
NORTHERN CAPE COVID-19 STATISTICS AS AT 09 DECEMBER 2021
The National Department of Health announced an additional 191 people testing positive for COVID-19 in the Northern Cape in the past 24 hours. The Province cumulative total currently stands at 94 153 people infected with COVID-19.
Frances Baard continues to account for the highest daily infections, today recording 115 new cases, followed by JT Gaetsewe (31), ZF Mgcawu (29), Pixley ka Seme (11) and Namakwa had 2 cases each. Additionally, three (3) cases are unallocated pending verification.
There was one (1) new COVID-19 related death reported in the Province for the past 72 hours. However, additional four (4) retrospective deaths which occurred in previous months were updated, taking the total cumulative deaths to 2 428.
We convey our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the families and loved ones of the departed.
The Province average recovery rate currently stands at 96%, representing a cumulative total of 90 574 people who have recovered from COVID-19. And the number of total active cases stands at 1 151.
As on 09 Dec, the Province had a total of forty-three (43) patients currently admitted (due to COVID-19 related complications) in our health care facilities. Only two (2) patients were admitted in the past 24 hours.
