TODAY IS MALARIA DAY
Malaria is a serious disease that is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito. It can leave a person feeling feverish and have the chills and, if not promptly treated, the symptoms can be fatal. In fact, more than 200 million people contract malaria each year, and about 1/2 million people each year needlessly die from it.
Even in these modern times, half the world still lives at risk of this fully preventable and treatable disease. While great strides against malaria have been made in the last couple of decades, there has been a bit of a plateau lately. The world still has very far to go toward wiping out this deadly illness.
Malaria Day was created by concerned citizens as a part of the strategy to do just that!

COVID-19 INFO
As of today (24 Apr 2021), the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases for South Africa is 1 574 370.
The number of tests conducted to date is 10 508 510. Of these 26 934 tests were completed since the last report.
Today, 59 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported: Eastern Cape 3, Free State 8, Gauteng 30, Kwa-Zulu Natal 13, Limpopo 5, Mpumalanga 0, North West 0, Northern Cape 0 and Western Cape 0, which brings the total to 54 125 deaths.
We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased.
Our cumulative recoveries today stand at 1 500 360, representing a recovery rate of 95%.
NORTHERN CAPE COVID-19 STATISTICS AS AT 24 APRIL 2021
The Minister of Health announced an additional 198 people testing positive for COVID-19 in the Northern Cape today. With today’s cases, the Province surpassed the 39 000 mark, with cumulative total now standing at 39 082 people.
In today’s report, Frances Baard recorded the highest cases (84), followed by JT Gaetsewe (39), Namakwa (28), Pixley Ka Seme (26) and ZF Mgacwu (19) while 2 cases are unallocated.
There were no newly recorded COVID-19 related deaths reported today. The Province total cumulative deaths due to COVID-19 complications remain 882.

The number of total active cases in the Province currently stand at 3 204.
There were 45 people reported to have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours. The Province average recovery rate currently stands at 90%, representing a cumulative total of 34 994 people who have recovered from COVID-19.
