CLOSE APPROACH OF THE MOON AND M44

The Moon and M44 will make a close approach, passing within 0°04′ of each other. The Moon will be 8 days old.

From Kimberley, the pair will be visible in the evening sky, becoming accessible at around 18:20 (SAST) as the dusk sky fades, 38° above your north-eastern horizon. They will then reach its highest point in the sky at 19:34, 41° above your northern horizon. They will continue to be observable until around 00:13, when they sink to 7° above your north-western horizon.

The Moon will be at mag -12.2, and M44 at mag 3.1, both in the constellation Cancer.

The pair will be close enough to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will also be visible through a pair of binoculars.

KIMBERLEY NIGHTLY WATER SHUTDOWN SHORTENED

Nightly water shutdown shortened from 6pm – 4am to 8pm to 4am.
According  to a statement from Sello Matsie, the Sol Plaatje Municipality Spokesperson, water will be shut off from 8pm and switched back on at 4am as of Monday, 18 February 2019. 

LOADSHEDDING RISK: Eskom has warned that the electricity system is tight this week and is encouraging consumers to use less.
