COVID-19 INFO
As of today (16 July 2021), the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service, reports 15 939 new COVID-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2 269 179. This increase represents a 29.5% positivity rate.
As per the National Department of Health, a further 413 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 66 385 to date.
14 154 725 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.
The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (38%), followed by Western Cape (19%). Limpopo accounted for 12%; Mpumalanga accounted for 9%; North West accounted for 8%; Eastern Cape accounted for 5%; KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 4%; Free State accounted for 3%; and Northern Cape accounted for 2% of today’s new cases.
NORTHERN CAPE COVID-19 STATISTICS AS AT 16 JULY 2021
The National Department of Health announced an additional 368 people testing positive for COVID-19 in the Northern Cape in the past 24 hours. This brings the Province total to 62 999 people.
Namakwa recorded the highest COVID-19 infections with 126, followed by ZF Mgcawu (82), Pixley ka Seme (72), Frances Baard (60) and JT Gaetsewe (24) while 4 cases are unallocated.
Today, there was one (1) deaths reported related to COVID-19 complications, from Phokwane LM in the Frances Baard district. The Province total cumulative deaths increased to 1 491.
We convey our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the families and loved ones of the departed.
The number of total active cases is currently standing at 4 710.
There were 269 people reported to have recorded from the disease. The Province average recovery rate stand at 90%, representing a cumulative total of 56 796 people who have recovered from COVID-19.
