COVID-19 INFO
As of today (1 October 2021), the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service reports 1,635 new COVID-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2,904,307. This increase represents a 4.4% positivity rate.
As per the National Department of Health, a further 79 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 87,705 to date.
17,727,831 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.
The majority of new cases today are from Western Cape (25%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (21%). Gauteng Province & Eastern Cape accounted for 12% each; Free State accounted for 11%; Northern Cape accounted for 9%; North West accounted for 5%; Mpumalanga accounted for 4%; and Limpopo accounted for 2% of today’s new cases.
NORTHERN CAPE COVID-19 STATISTICS AS AT 01 OCTOBER 2021
The National Department of Health announced an additional 146 people testing positive for COVID-19 in the Northern Cape in the past 24 hours. These new deaths are from: Frances Baard (4), Pixley ka Seme (1), ZF Mgcawu (1) and 1 unallocated. The Province cumulative total currently stands at 90 882 people infected with COVID-19.
In today’s update, Namakwa have the highest infections with 39, followed by JT Gaetsewe and Frances Baard with 33 cases each, while Pixley ka Seme and ZF Mgcawu have 21 and 20, respectively.
Today, there were seven (7) new deaths (related to COVID-19 complications) reported today, all occurred in the last 72 hours. The Province total cumulative deaths currently stands at 2 190.

The number of total active cases is standing at 5 872.
There were 54 people reported to have recovered from the disease. The Province average recovery rate remains 91%, representing a cumulative total of 82 820 people who have recovered from COVID-19.
