We would kindly like inform Businesses, Residents and the general public in areas of the Central Business District especially Woodley Street, Jones Street, Roper Street, De Beers Road, Flaxely House, Chapel Street including the suburb of De Beers that the electricity supply will be interrupted on Sunday 15 September 2013 as from 07h00 until 16h00.
The reason for the power interruption is because of a total shut down of KAC Substation to replace stolen copper earthing and repairs to vandalised medium voltage switchgear.
Break-ins and vandalism at substations has increased over the past few months where the thieves are stealing and stripping copper earthing from switchgear. Switchgear which is not adequately earthed could explode resulting not only in fatalities, but also leaving consumers without electricity for a number of days.
The municipality would like to appeal to residence to report any suspicious persons who are loitering around substations to the Control Room on the following numbers 0538306442 or 0538306643.
We would also like to thank the police, especially units that deal with these matters for the good work in arresting the suspects in the past.
