Parts of Kimberley experienced electricity outages late Monday afternoon due to a fire at the Herlear Substation. The electrical fire is thought to be due to the explosion of a transformer. Sol Plaatje Emergency Services was quickly on the scene and extinguished the blaze.
The fault send a surge through the largest part of Kimberley briefly affecting lights and electrical equipment.
According to Sello Matsie of Sol Plaatje Municipality the electrical department will supply affected areas from other substations if needed.
