TEMPORARY WATER INTERRUPTION 22/02/2026 – Newton Reservoir & Riverton Plant
UPDATE: 22 February 2026 – 18:00
⚠️IMPORTANT UPDATE 5: WATER SUPPLY RESTORED TO KIMBERLEY AND RIVERTON
* The pumps at Newton Reservoirs are back in operation at this hour.
* Nightly Water Supply Interruption will come into effect this evening from 21:00 to 04:00 as an obvious measure to replenish levels in an effort to attain an appreciable carrying capacity for uninterrupted water supply.
* Tap pressure is set to improve as the early evening progresses.
》 Important To Note: The above follows a loss in water production at the Riverton Water Treatment Plants resulting from a power supply failure.
Thank You To All Residents: Your cooperation and patience are highly appreciated.

⚠️IMPORTANT UPDATE 4: POWER SUPPLY RESTORED AT RIVERTON WATER TREATMENT PLANTS
* Our electricians, with the support of contractors, have successfully repaired electrical faults that had throttled the supply of water from Riverton Water Treatment Plants to Newton Reservoirs.
* Line filling of the water supply from Riverton to Newton Reservoirs is in progress.
* The suction level is full, meaning the dams are at its maximum capacity at Riverton.
Newton Reservoirs Pumps:
It will, at the most, take two hours for the water supply to reach Newton Reservoirs. The next update will be confirmation of pumps at Newton Reservoirs being back in operation.
Thank You To All Residents: Your cooperation and patience are highly appreciated.

⚠️IMPORTANT UPDATE 3: WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION IN KIMBERLEY AND RIVERTON DUE TO ELECTRICAL FAULT AT RIVERTON WATER TREATMENT PLANTS
* Electrical Repair Progress at Riverton Water Treatment Plants:
》 Switch-over on cables complete. Pressure testing is being undertaken to ensure the new cable is safe, strong, and free from faults before being laid underground in service.
One end of the cable has been successfully completed at the old Riverton Water Treatment Plant.
Our electricians are currently finalising the last termination at the new Riverton Treatment Plant transformer.
Upon completion of the changeover process, electrical supply will be restored to the plants.
The next update will follow with a focus on the restoration of the power supply.

UPDATE: 22 February 2026 – 10:10
⚠️IMPORTANT UPDATE: WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION IN HIGH-LYING AREAS DUE TO ELECTRICAL FAULT AT RIVERTON WATER TREATMENT PLANTS
* Pumps at Newton Reservoirs have been switched off amid a power supply interruption at Riverton Treatment Plants.
》 This is to avoid depleting the reservoirs as supply from Riverton has stopped.
* Measures to restore power supply at Riverton Water Treatment Plants:
》 Our electricians have terminated power supply cable from old plant to the new plant to prepare for pressure testing. The same test is to be conducted at old plant. Once the cable has tested clean, a chance-over will be undertaken for restoration of power supply.
More information to follow.

UPDATE: 22 February 2026 – 08:30
IMPORTANT ALERT: POWER INTERRUPTION IN HIGH-LYING AREAS DUE TO ELECTRICAL FAULT AT RIVERTON WATER TREATMENT PLANT
The city is experiencing a water interruption due to electrical fault at Riverton Water Treatment Plant:
* Electricians are conducting tests to determine the source of the fault; whether internal (linked to the newly installed transformer) or Eskom supply related (external);
* The stoppage in production at Riverton necessitated the switching-off of pumps at Newton Reservoirs to avoid depleting the dams.
More information to follow on the electricity interruption.

UPDATE: 22 February 2026 – 07:00
According to Sol Plaatje Infrastructure Call Centre, there is currently an electrical issue at Riverton Waterworks and as such Newton Reservoir has been switched off as a precaution to not drain it completely.
Residents serviced by the reservoir and Riverton directly, will experience little to no water pressure.
At this stage there has been no official update from Sol Plaatje Municipality.
