Kimberley Water Supply UPDATES – August 2025

UPDATE: 24 August 2025 – 20:15

UPDATE 2: REDUCED WATER SUPPLY OVER THE WEEKEND – 22 to 24 AUGUST 2025

The 900 mm valve in the vicinity of Midstation has been successfully installed, and all pumps are now running.

A special thank you to our Budget Facility for Infrastructure (BFI) project team for their hard work during day two of the valve installation. The welding was completed this morning, after which the valve assembly was lowered back into position. Once the valve was bolted and tightened, the bypass was opened, and the filling of the pipeline could begin.

Infrastructure upgrades, such as the valve replacement, are crucial as they enable us to isolate sections of the water supply system on the 900 mm and 600 mm pipelines from Riverton to Newton Reservoirs. We are grateful that the water supply to Kimberley remained uninterrupted throughout the weekend.

: Lowering and positioning the valve assembly is a fine balancing act.
: Thank you BFI team!

We thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.

UPDATE: 22 August 2025 – 13:30

ALERT: REDUCED WATER SUPPLY OVER THE WEEKEND – 22 to 24 AUGUST 2025

Upgrades under the Budget Facility for Infrastructure (BFI) Project, now make it possible to isolate sections of the water supply system on the 900 mm and 600 mm pipelines from Riverton to Newton Reservoirs. Maintenance and repairs can therefore be done without disrupting the water supply to Kimberley.

During these maintenance periods, residents will be supplied from the Newton Reservoirs. These reservoirs have consistently maintained water levels above 90% since the major water shutdown at the end of May 2025. This means there is enough water to supply the city.

The project team will be installing another 900 mm valve upstream of Midstation over the weekend of 22 to 24 August 2025.

During this time, a reduced water supply will be delivered from Riverton to the Newton Reservoirs via the 600 mm pipeline.

Water supply to residents is not expected to be interrupted.

However, residents are advised that water supply will be reduced over the weekend. We therefore request all residents to:

* Use water responsibly and sparingly.
* Ensure standby water supply systems and JoJo tanks are kept full as a precaution against any unforeseen problems.

We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
