Kimberley’s Kamfers Dam, once a home to the largest permanent population of lesser flamingos in Southern Africa, has virtually dried up with not a single flamingo in sight.
Sol Plaatje Municipality spokesman, Sello Matsie, yesterday admitted that several factors, including the drought, the broken Gogga Pump Station as well as the the fact that treated effluent water from Homevale was being distributed to “other stakeholders”, had caused a “drastic decrease” in the water supply to Kamfers Dam.
