TODAY IS WORLD GIN DAY
Distilled spirits have been with us for a very long time, and all of them have rich histories covering the sometimes mysterious origins of their use. While spirits have long been used medicinally, only one started as a medicine and then became a mixer for one of the most important medicines in history. This delicious, smooth drink is distilled from the berries of the Juniper tree, and can trace its origins back to an older drink from Denmark known as Jenever.
Celebrating Gin Day is best done by diving straight in and experimenting with some of the drinks that Gin has made amazing.

M62 is well placed
The globular cluster M62 (NGC 6266) in Ophiuchus will be well placed for observation. It will reach its highest point in the sky at around midnight local time.
At a declination of -30°06′, it is easiest to see from the southern hemisphere but cannot be seen from latitudes much north of 39°N.
From Kimberley, it will be visible between 18:58 and 05:41. It will become accessible at around 18:58, when it rises 21° above your south-eastern horizon, and then reach its highest point in the sky at 00:22, 88° above your southern horizon. It will become inaccessible at around 05:41 when it sinks to 22° above your south-western horizon.
At magnitude 6.4, M62 is quite faint, and certainly not visible to the naked eye, but can be viewed through a pair of binoculars or small telescope.
