Friends and family are still in shock after 43 year old Mudinie Hassim, affectionately known as Mudz, was fatally shot in front of an ABSA ATM in Jones Street (Phakamile Madija Road) at approximately 09:20am this morning.
The incident happened shortly after Mr Hassim withdrew money from the ATM as was walking back his vehicle parked nearby.
Traffic in the CBD came to a near standstill for over an hour as the road was cordoned off by the police.
Shortly after 09:00 am on Wednesday morning Hassim still greeted the staff while walking past Chicken Licken in the CDB where he was a regular customer. Moments later the staff at Chicken Licken heard a shot from outside. Rushing to the door they saw Mr Hassim falling to his knees on the pavement.
Allegedly an SBV Service security guards was loading money into the ABSA ATM when Mr Hassim tried to walk by them on the sidewalk. A security guest attempted to divert Mr Hassim off the sidewalk and around when an argument ensued. It was reported that during the argument Mr Hassim slapped the security guard who then drew his firearm and shot Mr Hassim in the chest.
Mr Hassim was still alive when paramedics arrived and was hooked up to a ventilator and rushed to hospital by Netcare 911, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrived.
Mr Hassim was unarmed and reports indicate that no warning shots were fired.
An SAPD spokesperson stated that a 24 year old man has been questioned and taken into custody. A case murder is being investigated.

Mudinie Hassim was a former raceway manager at Monstermob in Kimberley and a well known and loved figure in local motorsport drifting and drag racing circles.
He leaves behind his wife, Zaheera and four children, Ridwaan 25, Nasreen 21, Ameer 9 and seven year old Nasira Hassim.
